Our personal growth is determined by our willingness to face the truth. There is no foundation to build on without the truth. Whether we want to get healthier, wiser, richer, or nicer, we must start where we are. And if we don’t like where we are, or how we got there, or what we must do to move forward, facing the truth can be the toughest part of the journey. … More
To meet … with or without the mask?
There is no secret formula (unless you’re trying to sell books) for meeting people you want to date. You meet them the way you meet anybody else. Go where they are and introduce yourself. Don’t know where they are? Look around, but beware of traps. If you’re not into nightclubs, don’t go expecting to find a person you will be into.
Do what you love to do. You want to introduce the enlivened you (some people feel more downtrodden than alive at singles events). Sparkle is what makes us attractive.
There’s a familiar (and debated) story of how Hillary Rodham walked across the Yale Law School library and introduced herself to Bill Clinton. Even those who accuse the senator of inflating her importance in the story readily admit she intrigues and goes for what she wants. And you can do the same, playing by your own rules.
Get comfortable with yourself, and you’ll be warm and receptive and engaging — very attractive qualities. Practice on people you’re not interested in dating or people you don’t know you’re interested in dating. Have fun with it. And you just might find yourself dating somebody you thought was too rich or too poor, too young or too old, who is really just perfect.… More
What’s around the corner?
When you truly love yourself and others well, you’re too content to be desperately seeking a partner. And you’re no longer blaming your ex (or anybody else) for the past; you’ve learned from it, and you’re grateful for the present. And up ahead, just around the corner, you’re about to meet “the one.”… More
What do you demonstrate?
What do you do when you have the answer, and people aren’t quite convinced? You demonstrate it, right? You show them how well the answer works. You let them see it with their own eyes. Well, love is the answer! Today is another day to demonstrate it; and we can be better at it today than we were yesterday. … More
I believe in love so much that I’ll guarantee your dream!
The very foundation of relationships is love; and love is an art. You know how to love; but you may have forgotten how to do it well from a pure place. You probably need some conscious practice to get proficient. And relationships are a science; as a practical matter, they require ongoing attention from the ground up. The science can be learned; but it, too, requires practiced skills. And then there’s the magic inherent in every art and every science! Only relationships have more than their share! And with this in mind, I’ll be launching a new program.… More
Be worth what you want …
Looking for a financial break? The other day I caught myself skimping … and said, “Jan, don’t write the book report, without reading the book.” As a kid, I was able to do that and get As. As an adult, I know it’s about more than getting an A! Be efficient, but if you catch yourself looking too long or hard for a shortcut, give it up. Deliver the goods! A financial break is about trading value for value. What’s in demand that you can consistently deliver, better than anybody else? Love delivers! … More
