I remember … standing in front of this memorial to American soldiers on French soil. I remember reading the words, “*THIS EMBATTLED SHORE, PORTAL OF FREEDOM, IS FOREVER HALLOWED BY THE IDEALS, THE VALOR AND THE SACRIFICES OF OUR FELLOW COUNTRYMEN.” *
And I remember finding a place to cry, not tears of sadness, but tears of deep appreciation for the human spirit and our conviction to pursue freedom.
